ASABE announces new ISO standard for solid biofuels

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers announces that the international community has approved a new International Organization for Standardization standard for determining the composition of solid biofuels.

ISO 16967:2015(E), Solid biofuels — Determination of major elements — Al, Ca, Fe, Mg, P, K, Si, Na and Ti, describes methods for ascertaining the major chemical elements of solid biofuels: aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, silicon, sodium, and titanium. Determination of other elements, such as barium and manganese, is also possible with the methods described.

The document comprises two parts: Part A describes a direct analysis of the fuel, while, Part B gives a method for a prepared 550 degree Celsius ash.

ASABE is accredited by the American National Standards Institute as the administrator for the U.S. technical advisory group to the ISO committee on solid biofuels, TC 238, which was established in response to growing global trade in the subject commodities.
