Russian Segezha Group to build a new biomass pellet plant
According to the company, the plant’s biomass pellet production equipment investment reached 816.6 million rubles (≈10.6 million euros). The new plant will have an annual production of 70,000 tons and will be used for export. The total investment of the Segezha Group in Krasnoyarsk Krai has exceeded 1.7 billion rubles (≈22 million euros).
According to Hekotek, the project’s main technology supplier, one month after the factory first entered the “test mode”, the first batch of 120 containers loaded about 2,400 tons of pellets for shipment to European customers.
Governor Uss pointed out in his welcome speech that Lesosibirsky LDK has produced 16 million tons of sawn timber over the years, has weathered a difficult period, and recently reached a new height and entered a period of steady growth.
The complex has completed large-scale modernization and is technically the most well-equipped enterprise in the forestry sector in Russia and abroad. Granular production is a project that is a very important project from an economic and ecological point of view. The project must set a good example for other forestry companies. He said: “That’s why I want to thank the shareholders for their decisions and the long-awaited financing. I would also like to thank the employees of the joint company who put these plans into practice in a very short time.”
In his reply, Shamolin thanked the team of Lesosibirsky LDK 1 and the builders of the new production facilities.
When we arrived here six months ago, it was just a construction site, and new materials, steel and concrete were still in transit. It is hard to believe that our factory will be fully operational by the end of November. The team showed us their best side; the project was implemented in a timely manner and fully compliant with the budget. Mikhail Shamolin, chairman of the Segezha Group, said: “New employment opportunities and currency flows are constantly being created, and we continue to expand, technology development and new production facilities for LDK 1 project. The building is full of hope.”
The company’s plan is not limited to the production of new particles. The Segezha Group’s JSC Lesosibirsky LDK 1 project has a far-reaching plan: an important forest chemical product base that is expected to produce 500,000 tons of pulp per year.
In the past three decades, the technology of the forest industry has advanced by leaps and bounds. If wood processing was previously considered harmful to the environment, the situation has changed. Russia is the world’s number one in terms of reserves in coniferous forests, but Russia ranks only 10th in terms of pulp quality. These statistics need to be changed. When all the experts are evaluated, we plan to start the production of forest chemical products. I think we will reach a very different level of construction, facing different combinations and income levels and taxes in different regions, Mikhail Shamorin Implied a new pulp and paper production plan.
He added that the project will start construction in 2020 and expressed the hope that the new project will be put into production in 2022.
The new pulp and paper production will be completely CNC, environmentally friendly and very advanced. This will create about 500 new jobs and the company will process up to 3.5 million cubic meters of wood. We look forward to the future with confidence, and I have no doubt that we will be able to create such a new situation. Shamolin said: “We discussed this project with the governor and we have received full understanding and support.”
The new plant is the second pellet plant opened by the Segezha Group in 2018. In September this year, a pellet plant with an annual production capacity of 12,000 tons was started at the integrated timber base in Sokol, Voogda.
